Mahseer chooses a serene stretch of Cauvery along Kadkani Resort, Coorg

While there were a lot of talks and reports of Mahseer in the Cauvery river adjoining Kadkani River Resort, I was awaiting some strong evidence to believe these views. And sure enough, Manju, the local water sport expert toiled for over 3 hours and finally dived into the Cauvery to pull out this majestic fish!!! After a round of rejoicing and photographs, the "gorgeous one" was released back to the river for other to discover. This season, if you just hang around the banks for a few hours you can spot the fish in this river stretch!
Cauvery has been known to offer some of the largest Giant Mahseer in India but local poaching using different poaching techniques (such as bombing) and other river activities have been forcing the fishes to some limited stretches of less inhabited areas. But now, the resort with some sustained efforts and local support has almost accomplished the miracle of making this "DREAM FISH FOR ANGLERS " reappear in Coorg.

But like other wildlife, this fish is trying hard to survive the strokes of Urbanization & Development . The major threat for Mahseer remains poaching. In these circumstances we must support this spectacular fish by spreading the news to the main enthusiasts through which locals will realize the importance of this fish. (Kadkani strictly works on catch & release rule)
Mahseer also spelt Mahaseer, Masheer, Mahsheer is the fresh water Indian Carp.
